About: Francesco Petretti, biologist and ornithologist, teaches Science Communication at the University of Molise. He is member of the Scientific Committee of WWF and has been the head of the Biodiversity Program of the same association, dealing with protection of natural resources and endangered species. He edited the Red Book of Plants and Animals of Italy.
He has been member of the Species Survival Commission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and of the Working Group on steppe birds of Birdlife; he devoted years to the study the ecology and behavior of birds of prey and bustards. His studies on the Short toed Eagle have been the subject of scientific communications and of a monograph.
He collaborates with the magazine Io Donna (Corsera) and is Scientific Director of the magazine OASIS.
He loves to draw animals and tell their life, even through fables and stories that enliven his speeches on television.
He commented the series of National Geographic Great Migrations in Italy and directed a number of nature films that were broadcasted by the major TV networks in the Italian Program PAN Natural Stories (RAI 3), Quark (RAI1), Geo & Geo (RAI3 ) and were honored at national and international festivals (festival Wildscreen BBC Bristol in 1985 “The life of the Snake Eagle,” film festival of the mountain of Trento 1989, ornithological film festival in Menigoute).
He wrote the academic book on wildlife management “Manual of Wildlife Management” (Il Sole 24 Ore), the monograph “The Snake Eagle ” (Pandion editions) and several popular books on nature and the environment, including Atlas of Nature in Italy (Edit.Pizzi), Encyclopedia to save animals (Rizzoli), Nature in your pocket (Mondadori), a Year at Torricchio (A.Perdisa Editor), Cahiers de Voyage (Edagricole Calderini ). With his books won the prize of Culture of the Sea (San Felice Circeo), the prize Nature Literature (National Park of Maiella, Abbateggio) and the prize for scientific communication (Gargano National Park).

Author and presenter of radio and television programs Science and Ecology as “The ring of King Solomon” for RAI Radio 2, the “page of Science” for RAI Radio 3, “Green Space” (Stream TV). Since 1997 he is an expert naturalist program GEO & GEO for RAI 3 and is a scientific advisor to various television programs (Quark, Northwest Passage, Explora).
